Ramadan restaurant marketing in the UAE: loyalty campaigns that actually work

57% of UAE residents increase dining spend during Ramadan. Here's how to use loyalty data to build Ramadan campaigns that compound long past the season.

Ramadan is the most commercially important month of the year for UAE F&B. 57% of residents plan to increase dining and delivery spend across the month; dine-in drops 15% but delivery lifts 13-15%; iftar and suhoor bring completely new daypart demand; and customer behaviour shifts enough that last year's retention assumptions stop holding. And yet, most restaurants run the same 20% iftar discount they ran the year before, blast it to their entire list, and wonder why post-Ramadan April looks soft.

A loyalty-led Ramadan campaign doesn't just capture the intra-month bump, it uses the month's increased engagement to identify customers you'll market to for the other eleven. This guide walks through how to plan, run, and measure Ramadan campaigns that compound into the rest of the year.

Why generic Ramadan discounts underperform

When every restaurant on Sheikh Zayed Road runs "20% off iftar," the discount stops being a differentiator. Customers anchor to the highest percentage they see, aggregator platforms commoditise the category, and your brand earns no special preference. Worse, the customers who redeem a generic discount are disproportionately deal-hunters, not your repeatable regulars, so the revenue you capture rarely comes back in May.

The operators who grow through Ramadan, and then keep growing, do two things differently: they segment their audience instead of blasting everyone, and they design campaigns that build the list rather than just discount it.

Five loyalty-led campaigns that work during Ramadan

1. Early-Ramadan enrolment drive. In the 10 days before the first day of fasting, push a zero-friction enrolment offer: "Join our family before Ramadan, get 300 iftar points on your first visit." Signage at the counter, QR on receipts, one-sentence staff prompt. Enrolment rates spike 2-3× in pre-Ramadan windows because guests expect to come more often in the month ahead. Everyone you enrol now stays on the list forever.

2. Iftar group-booking nudges for champions. Pull your "Champions" segment (high recency + high frequency + high monetary) and send them, and only them, an exclusive Ramadan table-reservation perk: "Book a table of 6+ for iftar before March 5, complimentary dates + juice platter." The offer signals status, not discount. Champions love this; it outperforms "% off" on both response and average check.

3. Suhoor late-night push for specific segments. Customers who've historically ordered after 22:00 or checked in during late-night hours get targeted for suhoor, "Kitchen open until 3am, menu live now." Delivery-heavy segments get a delivery-only version; dine-in regulars get an in-store version with parking info. A segmented 200-person push outperforms a 5,000-person blast on both CTR and conversion, with zero opt-out damage.

4. Dormant win-back tied to Ramadan intent. The "dormant" segment, customers who used to visit but haven't in 60-180 days, responds unusually well to Ramadan messaging. Use language that signals welcome ("It's been a while, come break fast with us, 500 bonus points for your first visit back"). Win-back rates during Ramadan routinely hit 18-25% versus 8-12% in normal months.

5. Post-Ramadan Eid reward bridge. Don't let the engagement die on March 31. Design a bridge campaign: every iftar visit during Ramadan stacks a bonus reward redeemable in the first two weeks of April, "Visit 3 times, get double points on your first April visit." This is the mechanism that converts Ramadan volume into post-Ramadan retention, which is where most operators leak revenue.

Segment-by-segment Ramadan playbook

Champions, exclusive experiences (private suhoor, chef's tasting, group booking perks). Status, not discount.

Loyal, early access to Ramadan menu, bonus-point multipliers on iftar visits. Reward frequency, build habit.

Promising (newer, lower frequency), strong incentive to visit twice during the month, stacked reward on the second visit. Convert into loyal.

At-risk (breaking pattern), welcome-back push framed around Ramadan. High-value incentive, small window.

Dormant, reactivation with seasonal warmth and a meaningful bonus (500-1,000 points). Lowest expectation, highest upside.

New to the list, welcome sequence focused on Ramadan menu discovery, branch locator, and one clear CTA.

Delivery vs dine-in: planning for the shift

UAE delivery volume rises 13-15% during Ramadan while dine-in drops 15%. For aggregator-heavy brands this is a double-edged sword: volume is up, but commission-bleed is also up. Ramadan is the single best window of the year to push direct-ordering conversion, customers are ordering more often, and every redirected order saves you 25-35% effective take-rate during the month when it counts most.

Every Ramadan delivery order should ship with a direct-ordering QR, a bonus-point offer for ordering direct next time, and a clear "order before 18:30 for guaranteed iftar delivery" hook. Conversion rates in Ramadan run 2× pre-Ramadan baselines.

Timing and launch calendar

The operators who capture the season launch campaigns before Ramadan, not during. A rough calendar for Ramadan 2026 (March 1-31):

Week of Feb 15: Enrolment drive + "join before Ramadan" incentive live. Menu preview teased.

Week of Feb 22: Reservations open for iftar groups. Champions segment gets first access.

Feb 28: Final pre-Ramadan push. All segments receive appropriate message, champions, loyal, promising.

Ramadan (Mar 1-31): Daily operational messages (iftar timing, menu spotlights, suhoor windows). Weekly at-risk + dormant win-backs. Constant enrolment.

April 1-15: Post-Ramadan bridge campaign. Every Ramadan visit unlocks an April reward.

What to measure

A well-run Ramadan loyalty campaign should produce four measurable outcomes: enrolment lift (new members added vs. prior quarter average), Ramadan repeat rate (% of members who visited 2+ times during the month), post-Ramadan retention (% of Ramadan-active members who returned in April), and direct-channel conversion rate (% of Talabat orders that came through your direct ordering app within 30 days of a Ramadan order). If all four move, the season did its job. If only Ramadan-month revenue moved and April is flat, you ran a discount month, not a retention campaign.

Ramadan is the one month of the year where UAE diners actively want to hear from their favourite restaurants. Most operators use that attention to run the same discount as everyone else. The ones who use it to build a segmented, enrichable customer list win the next eleven months too.
